A quick overview of the history of China Painting

The art of China painting, or porcelain painting, originated in China in the 7th or 8th century on hard paste porcelain , or soft-paste porcelain (often bone china), and was further developed in 18th-century Europe. Porcelain is fired in a kiln and underglaze decoration may then be applied, followed by glaze, which is fired so it bonds to the porcelain object.

The glazed porcelain may then be painted with overglaze decoration and fired again to bond the paint with the glaze.

We sell glazed porcelain, which is used as a blank canvas to be painted with overglaze paints (that we also sell). Once painted the porcelain piece needs to be fired in a kiln at high temperature to bond with the porcelain. It is a popular and rewarding hobby and china painters usually use more than one firing in a kiln to create beautiful porcelain art and beautiful family heirlooms. Most of our porcelain is sourced from Japan, Europe and a very limited quantity from Brazil and China.

We carry vintage designed pieces as well as contemporary/modern designed blank porcelain blanks. These can be used as they are, or painted to your own style and taste and put to use in your own kitchen, dining table, bedroom, office or used as wall art for decorative purposes.
